A case report documents a noteworthy case where the information will contribute to the body of knowledge on a particular topic.  Case reports document:

• An unexpected association between diseases or symptoms.
• An unexpected event in the course of observing or treating a patient.
• Findings that shed new light on the possible cause of a disease or an adverse effect.
• A unique or rare feature of a disease.
• A unique therapeutic approach to care.

Case reports follow a specific format.

• Summary/Conclusion
• References
