The Ohio Osteopathic Association and the Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education held their yearly poster exhibition and competition at the 110th Annual Ohio Osteopathic Convention at the Hilton Columbus at Easton Town Center on June 21. This year's event surpassed previous years in the number of abstracts recieved and posters presented. In each judged category, the first place poster received $1000 and the second place poster received $500.

In the 2008 OOA/CORE category for Case Reports, Safi Faruqui, D.O., won first place for his poster “Two Cases of Unusual Coronal Lunate Fractures,” and Jaime Rehmann, OMS III, won second place for her poster “A Cause of Recurrent Pulmonary Infections in a 12-year-old.”
In the 2008 OOA/CORE category for Biomedical/Clinical Research, there was a tie for first place; K. Daniel Miller, D.O., received a $1000 prize for his poster “Nuchal Cord and Neonatal Outcome,” and Timothy Heckman, Ph.D., also received a $1000 prize for his poster “Do African American and Whites Respond Equally Well to Headache Treatments?: Findings from a Longitudinal, Naturalistic Study.”
In all, 36 abstracts were submitted for this year's event; two of the posters were educational in content and were not included in this year’s judging.
Of the 34 poster abstracts accepted for the competition, 12 posters presented case reports and 22 posters presented the findings of clinical/biomedical research. Ultimately, 10 case report posters were displayed and judged at the competition, and 19 clinical/biomedical research posters were displayed and judged.
